POSITION PAPERS

Book Jumpers And Double Bookers

Trust, unity and solidarity are keys in organizing the IBEW. People who cared for others more than themselves knew that together they could create a Brotherhood that would benefit all. Together they could create a safer work environment, a better standard of living, and a strong organization for future generations.

But double-booking, book jumping and signing Book 1 when it is not your home local all create dissension, division and animosity. Although not "illegal" by our International, it is unethical. People who support those actions defend themselves by saying there should be a law against it. These are the "me first" members.

To them I say our International and local unions cannot make this law because they are prevented by our federal and state governments. These governments are trying to eliminate all union organizations. By dividing our ranks and creating dissension, we are helping them make this a reality. If the IBEW is going to take you into the future, maybe you should care enough to make sure it will survive into the future. The "me first" attitude didn't create the IBEW, but it is sure to destroy it.
